La Leche League of the Basque Country Volunteers in Idomeni Refugee Camp

In 3 weeks,  Amaia Sarriegui and Adelina García , La Leche League leaders of Basque Country , Spain,  are going to volunteer at the Idomeni camp in collaboration with the Fireman in Action in a project to support breastfeeding mothers and mothers-to-be. Breastfeeding save lives in emergency situations. Bottle feeding can be dangerous due to the lack of clean water, poor hygiene conditions for formula preparation and its irregular distribution and availability. The lack of breastfeeding support and information, as well as the use of milk substitutes, increases malnutrition, diseases and infant mortality at the refugee camps. From the camp they have told us that they are in need of many basic relief items.
